No person shall park on any street in the business district for a period of time longer than thirty (30) minutes between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. of any day between November 15 to March 15.

What can I do about a barking dog or other pet nuisances? (Animal Control)
It is unlawful for an owner to allow a dog(s) to run at large. Dog(s) must be tied, leashed or kenneled at all times. It is unlawful for an owner to allow or permit dog(s) to habitually howl or yelp. Aurelia City Code Chapter 55. All animals must be licensed before April 1 of every year. Aurelia City Code Chapter 56. Citizens with complaints may call the police department and file a complaint.
May I operate my ATV or snowmobile in the city limits? (ATV and Snowmobile Ordinance)
ATV’s cannot be operated within the city limits. Iowa Code 321I.
Snowmobiles can only operate on city streets as long as they have not been plowed open. Snowmobiles shall not be operated upon a sidewalk or that portion of street located between the curb line and the sidewalk commonly referred to as the parking. Aurelia City Code Chapter 75.
What are the speed limits around town? (Speed Limits)
The speed limits on city streets are 25 miles per hour (mph). The speed limit on Highway 7 is as posted; 35 mph through town, 45 mph at the outskirts. The speed limit on the section of M21 north of Highway 7 (Valor Road) is 35 mph. The gravel road on the north edge of the city limit (9th Street) is 35 mph. Please, buckle up and drive safely.

If I need shelter during severe weather, where do I go? (Tornado Shelter Locations)
The Aurelia Community Center (on Main Street, across the street from the City Hall) is opened as a community shelter during severe weather. Remember; if the outdoor warning system (tornado siren) is activated take shelter immediately.
I’ve locked my keys in my car, what do I do? (Vehicle Unlocking Policy)
It is against city policy for the Police Department to unlock vehicle doors except in the case of an emergency. You may contact locksmith Jerry Nelson of Cherokee, Brian Karley of Aurelia, or your dealership for assistance.
May I contact the police department while I’m out of town for an extended period? (Extra Security)
If you are a snowbird or will be gone on an extended trip feel free to contact the Aurelia Police Department. The department will be on the look-out for any unusual activity. When contacting the APD be prepared to provide the following information: • How long you will be gone? (departure and return dates/times) • Who to call in case of an emergency? (names and phone numbers) • Other important information (will lights be left on, do you have someone checking the house? etc.)
What about D.A.R.E. in the Aurelia School System? (D.A.R.E. Instruction)
A cooperative effort between the City of Aurelia and the Aurelia Community School District provides D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) to Aurelia 5th and 8th grade students. Chief Gene Suhr who has been teaching D.A.R.E. since 2001 instructs the classes. The highly acclaimed D.A.R.E. program gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence. D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of ten classroom lessons that teaches students how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
